Beyond The Bells and Cheers of 2013

LOOKING BEYOND 2013:  By Brian Zelley

AS we travel back to 2013 events, we can speculate events for 2014.
Some may remember the June 15th. event in Moncton, one of the bouts featured
SandyPembroke and Julien Collette.  That bout and the others became just a footnote
while all eyes and ears were focused on the politics in Moncton and Julien's suspension.

Well it has been six months and we are waiting with baited breath for Sandy and Julien to lace up the gloves and come out fighting.  Word is that SANDY PEMBROKE will see action in
February against the popular FRANK WHITE

Then we have DENTON DALEY who fought Monrose in September at the
Casino Rama and is also expected to see action at the Hershey Centre in
February.

And, what about ANDREW KOONER and SEBASTIEN GAUTHIER?  Word is that Sebastien will make a comeback in 2014 with a bout at the Bell Centre in Montreal and Andrew
is expected to be picked as one of 21 for the 2014 Canadian Amateur Boxing History and
Wall of Fame.  Some other recent active pro boxers expected on the wall is the man
who was the lone Canadian boxer in the 2008 Olympicsm ADAM "A-bomb" TRUPISH.
and former amateur and professional champion MATTHEW HILTON. And for the women in boxing there will be ARIANE FORTIN and MARY SPENCER.

Some Names That Should Be Followed:
Ali Monsour, Didier Bence, Jason Douglas, Troy Ross, Denton Daley, Chris Norrad,
Steve Rolls, Jonah Arbuckle, Stuart McLellan, Mikael Zewski. Brandon Brewer,
Brandon Cook, Samuel Vargas, Diery Jean, Cam O'Connell and Tyson Cave.
But there are many others that need to be remembered for their participation
in 2013. And. it was great to follow the pro journey of recently retired
PAUL "P-Mac:" MACKENZIE/  Then we cannot forget JUNIOR MOAR.

Other Moments For 2013
Another  event was picking boxers and builders for the
British Columbia Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame

Brandon Cook - 2013 boxing journey

Brandon Cook - Boxer
Undefeated  With Four More Wins: by Brian Zelley
For Brandon Cook, four fights in 2013 have elevated him to  12 - 0 record.
Likely, the most important victory was his bout against
Fitz Vanderpool FOR THE VACANT CANADIAN
light-middleweight title. In that bout in June, Brandon earned a quick victory
over the experienced "Fighting Fitz", the last two bouts were more of the same with wins.,

The Road Ahead:
Nothing is certain in the boxing game, and an undefeated record will not mean much jwhen he faces top ranked boxers on the world stage.  With only 12 pro fights in the back, it is hard to predict the results for 201, but as a minimum, we should expect
to see Brandon Cook defend his Canadian title against some top quality Canadians.

Shelito Vincent Wins by a Fourth Round TKO over Alisah McPhee

Shelito Vincent Wins by a Fourth Round TKO over Alisah McPhee

appears to be a bit of a mismatch for the Canadian boxer from the Langley region of BC.
McPhee was making her second start as a pro.  In the pro debut, the best she could do
is to win a split decision over another boxer with limited pro experience.

Brandon Cook back in the ring

The Brandon Cook journey picks up steam

By Brian Zelléy

Below is the key to a fresh new chapter to the Brandon Cook boxing story
Ajax boxer Cook back in the ring
The story of the Ajax boxer is not limited to one news report
in the black and white pages of a local news release of the next fight,
is measured by his total performance in recent years.

This is not the time to be elevating him to the top Canadian boxers of all time,
but we can follow is progress in the here and now with support and best wishes.
When the journey ends, then it will be the time to measure his impact
as a great Canadian boxer, but may the journey be long with many victories.

Julien Collette - Boxer

The support JULIEN COLLETTE page:
Julien Collette - Boxer

* June 15th. will be remembered as a dark day for
Canadian boxing, and Julien Collette was unfairly
suspended from boxing for a year by the
New Brunswick boxing & wrestling commission
when he was protesting for his rights in what
appeared to be  a bad situation where all
the boxers were not paid.

For his leadership in protecting the rights of the boxers,
he was punished which is unacceptable in Canadian
amateur and professional boxing.

CANADIAN BOXING ROAD MAP

BOXING - January to March 2013:

* by Brian Zelley

This story will look at ring activity for the
first quarter of 2013:

In January, Windsor boxer Ali Mansour kept on
rolling along with an early stoppage of Merin Johnson
in Grand Rapids.  But, two Canadian boxers in other
locations dropped bouts to USA boxers in January.

Peggy Maerz saw action in New York city against
the local star Heather Hardy, and dropped a four
round decision to the active Hardy.  Also, upset
in a January bout was Canadian Tony Luis.  With
lots of action Luis was upset by Texan Jose Hernandez.
But, one boxer that kept rolling along with a perfect
record was Mikael Zewski with win number 18.

More 2013 action:
* During the month of February, Canadian boxers were
active with some mixed results.
Some of the Canadian earning victories were:
Kevin Bizier, Didier Bence and Steven Rolls.
In March, Steven Rolls scored another victory.

and Ali Mansour scored another quick victory
in the Detroit area to keep rolling along.

* The return of professional boxing to BC
was expecting a bout featuring Junior Moar
but the bout fell through over some issues,
and undefeated boxer Adam Trupish  returned
to the ring, but was upset by California's
Dashon Johnson.  Also in action was A. McPhee
with a good victory over Wendy Roy.  Also, in
action in one of the pro fights was Jamie Walton.

BRANDON BREWER:
* In recent months, Brandon has racked up two wins
in New Brunswick, and is expected to see further
action in May and June.

Arash Usmanee:

Arash had one fight in the first quarter of 2013
Entering the bout, Usmanee was undefeated in
twenty bouts.  But, this one he dropped the 12-rd.
decision in an IBF super feathrweight title eliminator.

Jaime Ward Wins Pro Debut – Vancouver Province

THE JAIME WARD BOXING JOURNEY:   by brian zelley

the Canadian Nationals for women in boxing.

and Boxing BC team
member Jaime Ward.

Jaime Ward Wins Pro Debut – Vancouver Province

Since the pro debut, Jaime has laced up the gloves again
in December 2012 with a loss to boxer A. McPhee.

The Road Forward:

It is unknown how many more bouts the boxer from
North Vancouver will have in future days, but the
journey from amateur boxing to professional boxing
is likely to be a whole different experience.  Although
Ward may have not liked some of the politics in amateur
boxing, the pro circuit will take politics to a whole new
and higher level.  The question that must be asked, is if
politics in amateur boxing was hard to take where will the
the politics in the buisiness of pro boxing lead?

FIGHTIN' FISHERMAN's boxing promotions

PRO BOXING IN THE MARITIMES: by brian Zelley

* Despite ongoing success in amateur boxing and a great history
in professional boxing with numerous starts, there has been concern
by some that professional boxing in places like Nova Scotia are on
the ropes.  But, beyond every dark cloud, there will be blue sky and
the golden glow of the warm sunshine.

* Is it now time for a greater explosion of pro ring activity in
The Maritimes with the province of Nova Scotia ready to
revive the greatness and activity of the past and the folks of
New Brunswick have success with the group:
Fightin' Fisherman Promotions.

Yvon Durelle, the best known "Fighting Fisherman"

* If we drift back to the 1950's, the light-heavyweight boxer
Yvon Durelle was called the "Fighting Fisherman" while fighting
in New Brunswick and after his famous bout with champion Archie Moore
Yvon became a Candian legend and icon.

The Fightin' Fisherman {Promotions:

Some key folks involved in this venture to promote pro boxing
cards in places like New Brunswick and hopefully venture into
Nova Scotia has Elmer Martin as the president, but along with
Elmer there are other organizers such as Melaine Doucet,
and Dwayne Storey.  In some of his praises,
Elmer also recognizes Phil Baraly and A. McLeod
as some of the folks that have supported him and
boxing.  Phil is well known for his boxing gym in
New Brunswick.

CANADIAN BOXING: BEYOND THE MAIN EVENT

BEYOND THE MAIN EVENT: By Brian Zelley

List of boxers expected to appear for a May 2013
NCC Middleweight title fight posted by the Albeta Boxing group.

The undercard fighters:

*  In the pre-fight buzz, or the post fight reports, often with some exceptionsm
the under card boxers  are often just considered a footnote to the main event,
but in building the true history of the sport, those unsung warriours often
make or break a show with their participation, service and action despite
the limited purse and the rewards.  .

It was November 2011 when Dave Spencer
wrote the story with the following headline:
"Cote destroys Teron"
* at the time Pier Olivier Cote was described
as a rising Canadian boxing star.  And, the
boxing journey continues.

Pier Olivier Cote : Boxer

2008 Prospect Of The Year

* It was 2008, when Pier was voted by Fight News
"Prospect of the year".  And from 2008 to 2011, he
would continue to rack-up victories.

It was 2011, when Cote would defeat Teron by a KO
to earn the vacant IBF Inter-Continental title.

*  A year later, Cote travelled to England  to
score another victory inside the distance with
a victory over Mark Lloyd in Nottingham.

Beyond Nottingham, England

Not much has been done by Cote since is victory
in England, but with a winning recored, it would
be interesting to see Cote back in the thick of the
ring action.

SELLING THE STORY ONE PAGE AT A TIME:

It takes many hands to pull the Canadian Professional

this site and the site 2013 Canadian Professional Boxing

boxing story beyond the gym and the ringside chatter.
To recogonize the boxers, trainers, mnagers and athe
promoters, they need to be accepted and given the
chance to participate in not only their individual journey
but to share in the stories of others such as an
ADAM TRUPISH sounding the bugle for the beginnine
of the PAUL MACKENZIE pro journey. Or, P-mac

Depending on the results of those two bouts if they come to pass

With action in Quebec, one should expect positive results in
future years, so time will tell.

Stuart McLellan : Boxer

The Williams Lake Warrior: by brian zelley

Stuart McLellan : Boxer

Stuart is a Williams Lake boxer who is the brother

OPPORTUNITY AND ACTIVITY vs CONVENIENCE

THE ROAD AHEAD: by Brian Zelley

Effective promotions of Professional boxing in Western Canaada:

"Vast vision must improve our sight" - Opportunity vs Convenience
* There are many schools of thought about effective and efficient promotion

of professional boxing with two clear paths for the future:

The Pro-Am shows vs Opportunity for the prelim boxers.

There are likely advantages and disadvantages for both means of selling
the product.  But, what is the right path for the future of professional
boxing?  In my opinion, the pro-am card is a sell-out to those prelim
boxers that are just starting on the professional boxing journey.

Frank White : Boxer
* The above link is to the record according to Boxrec which includes
his recent fight which was a victory in New Brunswick.

One can always be sure that Frank will always be in the fight and will
always be a crowd pleaser for his effort.

Th pro boxing journey of Frank White:

Looking back, the beginning of the story takes place in 2006
when he made his pro debut in Boston in a four rounderwhich
did not have any high profile boxers, but for Sarnia's Frank White
it was the beginning.

Between 2006 and 2008, Frank would lose a couple of bouts along
the way to Kevin Reynolds and Ryan  Henney.  But then would come
his shot at a Canadian title.

It was 2008, in Edmonton when he won the decision over Ryan Henney
and the Canadian cruiserweight title.  But, in 2010 at Edmonton it
would be Henny that would win the decision and the title over Frank White.
That loss was followed by more in 2011 and 2012, but on March 2, 2013
a new year and a new Frank White would arrive in Moncton to prove
that the popular Frank White is still in the fight with a nice victory over
Sandy Robb who came into the fight undefeated in ten or so fights.

The Frank White boxing journey continues:  June 15, 2013
